Since 2009, there has been a consistent demand from community stakeholders (employers, job seekers, career practitioners, teachers, etc.) for timely, effective and local labour market information. Each year, the Peel Halton Workforce Development Group (PHWDG) compiles a LLMP (Local Labour Market Plan) formerly known as the TOP report (Trends, Opportunities and Priorities) that captures action plans from research, consultation with stakeholders, and the community. For six consecutive years, LMI challenges/solutions have been requested, by community stakeholders, to be included in the reports because lack of LMI is an ongoing critical gap for job seekers, career changers, and the professionals who assist them. In 2009, a basic listing of LMI sources was compiled and added to the PHWDG’s website. In 2012, this information was updated and transferred to its own website; www.workinginpeelhalton.com. However, both of these initiatives cannot be considered LMI products. Research is clear that an effective LMI product must be:
- updated regularly
- mediated and simplified for understanding
- distributed regularly and timely
In September 2013, www.workinginpeelhalton.com was re-launched as a pilot project (until end of December 2013) containing all of the elements of an effective LMI product. User feedback will be collected that will inform the future direction of the project.
